HOW MANY TIMES HAVE THE WHITE SOX WON THE WORLD SERIES?
The Chicago White Sox have won the World Series three times since the inception of the modern World Series in 1903. They won
- In 1906, against the home-town Chicago Cubs in 1906, four games to two
- In 1917, against the New York Giants, four games to two
- In 2005, against the Houston Astros, four games to zero
They played in but lost the Series twice, in 1919 and 1959. Of course, that 1919 loss is infamous as the year that the Sox were charged with throwing the game. The result of the Black Sox Scandal, as it was known, was profound. Although the players were acquitted of criminal wrongdoing, they were banned from baseball for life by commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis. And the team, if you believe it, labored under the Curse of the Black Sox, which prevented them from winning a World Series for ages. Eighty-eight years passed between their World Series victory in 1917 until their next one in 2005.
